2023 ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME CLASS
St. Johns High School Athletic Hall of Fame – Class of 2023
Congratulations to the class of 2023 who was inducted into the St. Johns High School Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday, September 8th, 2023.
Rex Knight (Baseball, Basketball, Football): Earned 11 varsity letters; Boys State Representative 1958; West Central basketball scoring record in football in 1957 & 1958; 2nd in West Central basketball scoring and set basketball league record 1958-1959 (261pts); Detroit Free Press All-State Basketball 1959; Selected to “Wood TV All-Star Basketball Team” 1959; Received the Duane Brown Trophy for Outstanding Athlete; 1959 SJHS Graduate.
Tim Moore (Baseball, Football, Track): Earned 7 varsity letters; 1st team defensive Lansing All-Area; 2-Time 1st Team Defensive All-Conference; 1st Team Defense All-State; Michigan High School All-Star Football Game; Played 4 years at Michigan State University; 1981 2nd Team All-Big Ten; Honorable Mention All-American, 1983 SJHS Graduate.
Emily Ann Humphrey (Tennis, Volleyball): Earned 6 varsity letters; 2 Time All-Conference in volleyball; 1-Time 2nd Team All-Conference in Tennis; 1-Time Conference Champion in 2nd Singles in Tennis; 3-Time All-Conference 1st Singles in Tennis; 3-Time Conference Champion 1st Singles in Tennis; 1-Time Regional Champion; All-State Tennis Class “A”; Senior Match Record 23-3; Overall Record 71-10; 4 year member of the University of Toledo Tennis Team; 1990 Graduate of SJHS.
Mark Williams (SJHS Groundskeeper 1979-2020): Mark Williams began his career with St. Johns Public Schools on November 5, 1979. In 1988 he became Head Groundskeeper. Mark was responsible for maintaining all district grounds but took a special interest in the athletic facilities. Mark often came in on his own time to prepare baseball, softball, soccer and football fields, as well as the track, cross country course and practice facilities. He put his heart and soul into making sure the grounds were in pristine condition for play, time and time again. Mark retired on December 31, 2020 after 42 years of showing of SJPS facilities to the community and visitors. 1973 Graduate of SJHS.
1986-1987 Cheerleading Team: Coached by Michelle Lindquist, the 1986-87 St. Johns Varsity Cheerleading Team won first place overall Grand Champion Trophy at International Cheerleading Foundation Summer Training Camp at Ferris State College qualifying them for National Competition. At the National Championship in Nashville, TN composed of 238 teams, St. John’s performance earned the title of 2nd Runner-Up in the Large Varsity Division against 83 teams. They also received a trophy for “Most Outstanding Cheer Execution”.
1987-88 Cheerleading Team: Coached by Michelle Lindquist, the 1987-88 St. Johns Varsity Cheerleading Team returned to Ferris State University International Cheerleading Foundation Summer Training Camp winning the First Place Overall Grand Champion and a special award for “Congeniality”. This qualified them again for the National Competition in Nashville, TN. Performing 230 teams from 38 states the team won a special trophy for “Best Partner Stunts” in all Divisions. Competing against 71 teams, St. Johns was crowned the ICF Large Varsity Division National Champions!
